I will always start these blogs saying this: “I do not believe in Tier Lists.”
Heimdall is what many call a Tier B hero. Ranking from S+ to C. He’s pretty much considered an Average Joe…or is he?
Out of all the Tank type heroes in the game, Heimdall has the most situational kit. That is both his weakness and his strength. All other Tank type heroes have heavy crowd control and are chunky enough to survive the initial hits after engaging a team fight. Heimdall does not. Heimdall only has a 0.6 second airborne (C Skill), and a 30% (C skill) and 75% (B skill) slow that only affect those those hit by his small skill hitboxes. But who’s to say he’s weak?
Out of all the Tanks in the game, Heimdall is the most versatile. He can basically adapt to any situation (given that the player knows how to adjust his playstyle depending on what is happening).
SKILLS
BUILD
Dymwyt’s Heimdall Build: (Left to Right) Stormbreaker, Hydra Boots, Starlight Armor, Heimdall’s Sword, Cape of Levitation, Immortal Glaive
Heimdall can benefit so much with Stormbreaker as the [Passive – Stormbreaker] pairs well with his [B Skill – Epee Attack]. Stormbreaker reduces armor by 4% up to 24%. Pair that up with [B Skill – Epee Attack]’s 15% total Armor Penetration and you’ll have no reason to be scared of 1v1 engagements on Top Lane.
Hydra Boots > Upgraded Hydra Boots. This pair of boots is much better compared to it’s Energy Resist counterpart. Most heroes on MSW have more bursts than crowd control (sometimes both) and physical damage heroes are more of a threat than Energy heroes in late game and every drop of damage reduction helps.
Assuming Heimdall is on level 18 and has completed the build, [Passive – Heavy Attack] deals an additional 680 Physical Damage.
Heimdall isn’t a chunky Tank hero. He needs as much life saving passives to help him survive the initial hits when starting a fight. Given you’ve already bought Hydra Boots and Starlight Armor before buying this, it’s safe to say you need an item to help you survive a fight with an Energy type hero while dishing out decent damage to give them a clear message that you aren’t backing down from a fight. On a level 18 full build Heimdall, Heimdall’s Sword absorbs 978 energy damage and heals 70HP/4sec (17.5HP/sec) which is small but we’ll take what we can get.
Only having the ability to negate an ability directed at you every 40 seconds may seem weak but having immunity from the possible crowd control effect of an enemy’s skill when starting a team fight (which is where most players usually spam all their CCs) is key to surviving or even winning a team fight.
The last item in the build. Heimdall is, first and foremost, a Tank. His role is to spearhead himself in the thick of the enemy team and initiate a team fight. Like I said earlier on, every drop of defense counts. Level 18 full build grants you a [Passive – Immortal Glaive] shield that negates up to 2,251 damage.

•Strike Particle gives increase in damage.
•Restoration Module is for sustain during team fights.
•Spellcast Boost adds the last remaining 10% Cooldown Reduction (Build gives 30% Cooldown Reduction; a total of 40%).
